OUR HISTORY
Our current Pastor is Reverend Timothy W. Johnson. His ministerial staff members are Rev. Gloria Myers, Rev. Willie Cuffee, and Rev. John Reid (Minister of Music) . We have an active Missionary Society and are currently reorganizing our Young People's Department. We also are blessed to have several talented choirs including our Senior Choir (first Sunday Services); Male Chorus (second Sunday services); Number 2 Choir (third Sunday Services); Youth and Young Adult Choir (fourth Sunday services); and our Combined Choir (for fifth Sunday Services).
Our Church Father is Mr. Seth McDonald, Sr. who is 94 years old and still an active participant in Sunday school and Sunday morning services.
Our Church Mother is Mrs. Sophia Alexander who is also an active participant in Sunday school and Sunday morning services. We are blessed to have several other church members who are also over 90 years old: Mr. Colon Simmons; Mr. Mike Holley; and Mr. Willie Townsend.
We are blessed to have a storied church history and have provided a synopsis of important events below.
1907: our church was founded by Rev. Paul Lee and former members of Bethel AME Church
1908-1909: our Steward Board was founded
1909: we organized our first choir
1910-1912: we purchased our first pews
1916-1918: we purchased our first choir robes
1918-1923: our church was rebuilt and our second cornerstone was laid
1923-1928: establised our Usher Board and built a parsonage
1936-1948: secured electrical wiring and fixtures; central heating acquired to replace wood stove; organized a second choir; purchased organ
1959-1962: established Pastor's Aide and Missionary societies; added altar call to morning service; elected our 1st church mother (Sophia Simmons)
1962-1965: purchased pulpit set, altar chairs, communion and offering tables
1967: began holding regular Bible study services
1979: organized the male chorus and gospel choir
1980-1993: land purchased (which is now home to our current church facility)
1993: Pastor Horace B. Cross, Sr. (our longest serving, and current, Pastor) was appointed to hold the Pastorate at our church
November 13, 1999: we moved into our current facility
2001: we burned the mortgage on our current facility
2010: we purchased an additional piece of property
2010: upgraded our sound system and installed monitors in our sanctuary and fellowship hall
2011: began serving as a drop site for the USMC's Toys for Tots program
2013: began work, with a sister church, to assist with a mission's program to Haiti
2013: implemented a program to collect donations for Our House, a local transitional shelter
